香川県高松市の「１つだけ美術館」では
企画展『Question the memory』３月２１日まで開催中です。
今回音楽制作と演奏を担当させていただきました。

今回の作品は、高松で「1つだけ美術館」を主宰する
よしおかりつこさんからのご依頼で制作したものです。

作品タイトル「Question the memory」は直訳すると
「記憶を問う」「記憶をたどる」といった意味ですが、
それだけではなく、記憶とは何かをあらためて考えてもらうような
メッセージが含まれているとうかがいました。
「音」―それは「耳」で聞いているのではなくて「記憶」で聴いているのだそうです。
自身の経験によって、そのただの“振動”を脳で組み立てられるようになってはじめて、
「音」「音楽」として『聴く』ことができる。
即ち『聴く』ことは、「記憶」、
つまり体験によって自分の内部にのみ存在するものによるため、
自分のこれまでの体験に基づいた記憶次第で、
聞こえている世界はみんな違っている。
今回、よしおかりつこさんから、
そのようなコンセプトでの展示をしたいと声をかけていただきました。
音の録音は「記憶を問う」コンセプトに基づき、
耳元で演奏しているかのような臨場感を優先し、
敢えてiPhoneで録音、無加工の音を聞いていただきます。
「Invisible Switch」
私は箏（こと）演奏家として、これまで、人のこころの奥底、それぞれの記憶、
そんな「目に見えないけれど、確実に自分自身の中に、そして人の中に存在する大切なもの」を
テーマにした作品作りをして参りました。
この展示作品は「箏」をテーマに展示をするけれど、
箏本体は展示をしないとうかがい、
私が追求してきたことと相通ずるものを感じています。
「琴線に触れる」という言葉がありますが、
映像と箏の音を使って、作品に向き合う人ひとりひとりが、
それぞれの記憶をたどり呼び覚ます見えないスイッチ
（Invisible Switch）になれないだろうかと考えました。
皆さんはどのように受け止めていただいたでしょうか。
よしおかりつこさんの１つだけ美術館のコンセプト、

This work was commissioned by Ritsuko Yoshioka,
who runs '1 Museum' in Takamatsu.

The title of the work, "Question the memory,"
directly translated means "to question the memory" or "to trace the memory,"
but it also contains a message that encourages
people to rethink what memory is.
"Sound" - we do not hear it with
our "ears" but with our "memory".
We can only "hear" sound or music
when our brains are able to construct its mere "vibrations" through
our own experiences.
In other words, "hearing" is based on "memory," or something
that exists only inside of us through our experiences,
so the world we hear is different for everyone,
depending on
our memory based on our past experiences.
Ritsuko Yoshioka approached me this time to
exhibit such a concept.
"Invisible Switch"
As a koto (Japanese stringed instrument) player,
I have been creating works on the theme of "the depths of the human heart,"
"the memories of each individual,"
and "the
invisible but important things that exist within ourselves and within each
other.
When I heard that this exhibition will be held under the theme of "koto,"
but not the koto itself, I felt that
it is in line with what I have been pursuing.
There is a word "touch the heartstrings,"
and I wondered if the images and the sound of the koto could be an invisible switch
that would awaken the memories of each and every person
who comes face to face with the work.
How did you receive it?
I would like to express my sincere admiration
and gratitude to Ritsuko Yoshioka for her '1 museum' concept,
and for this wonderful opportunity.
